Deployment & The Ecological Systems TheoryAs previously discussed, the development of a child during parental deployment can be negatively impacted. The temporary loss of a parental figure, combined with the possibility of injury or death, result in a high level of stress in the adolescent. These emotions result in a decreased state of emotional well-being which impacts their social relationships, academic performance, and experiences at home. Urie Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory provides a framework for describing the different aspects of an adolescents life that are being impacted during this time.
Chronosystems
|
Chronosystems refer to the historical context in which the child is living that may influence their other ecological systems. Adolescents of the 21st century benefit from the technology available during parental deployment. Technology allows for more frequent opportunities to communicate with the absent parent including emails, phone calls, Skype, and Facetime. These technologies allow the child to maintain a positive relationship with the deployed parent which could lessen the chance for a disruption in one of the other systems.
